Denn unsere Region ist mit einem milden Klima gesegnet. Deshalb wachsen hier übrigens neben Mandeln auch Feigen, Kiwis und Zitrusfrüchte. Es wird angenommen, dass schon die Römer den Mandelbaum mitbrachten und ebenso wie den Wein hier systematisch angebaut haben. Noch heute bezeugen viele Flurbezeichnungen wie Gimmeldinger Mandelgarten oder Birkweiler Mandelberg die lange Tradition des Mandelanbaus. Heute sind die meist angebauten Sorten die rosa blühende „Perle der Weinstraße“, sowie die weiß blühende „Dürkheimer Krachmandel“.
